Re: [IP] 504 plan

Julie,

It is wonderful to be at the same school as your child. When Jennifer was
diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago I was right there because I am a reading specialist
at her elementary school. That particular day she had an upset stomach and
wasn't feeling well. The health clerk was so good about notifying me and I was
able to be there immediatately. We called the pediatrician from school, she
ordered a blood test just based on are verbal description of symptoms, we drive
to the lab, and 3 hours later found ourselves at the endo's office learning to
give shots. She never was hospitalized. Then the first year after diagnosis, if
she felt low I could be the one to do the testing and advice the health clerk
about how much snack etc. I was also able to educate her teachers easily
because I knew them.

I know few of us get to be near our child while we are working and they are in
school, but I have been so grateful we had that opportunity. I believe there
are sample 504's on the Children with Diabetes website. Goodluck.

Kay
