IMO, the best way to determine what type of response
we have is to;
 - do a basal check by fasting and correct basals so
that the bg's stay level without any boluses.
 - after the fast, eat a food that you know the
exact carb count, which has little fat and no
insulin still in your system and bolus
 - check bg's every hour, or better, and chart the
rise and fall of those bg's.

In this way if the bg's are high 4 hours after the
bolus, on a fast it would not be, and then falls to
normal levels, you can be sure that there is a
delayed response.  If there isn't a delayed
response, then there are other overlapping problems.
