[IP] Re: DKA treatment guidelines

The CWD web site has posted treatment guidelines for DKA in children and
adolescents. It is a six page article, so difficult to summarize here! It
is reprinted form Clinical Pediatrics 1996, 35.

As you can imagine, it is more complicated than simply bringing down blood
glucose levels. The summary states: "This article provides guidelines on
management to restore perfusion, stop ongoing ketogenesis, correct
electrolyte losses, and avoid hypokalemia and hypoglycemia and the
circumstances that may contribute, in some instances, to cerebral edema. "
