With COBRA (continuation of benefits) you pay the premium to the HMO company 
directly.  Your coverage and co-pay should not change.  They will issue you a 
new membership card.  You are still entitled to the same care and coverage as 
before.  Make sure you have all your paperwork (get this from your mom's 
human resource dept. at her work) done well in advance of your current 
coverage expiring (for you sounds like you would do this late AUG or 
Sept.1)so you won't have a gap in service and will have plenty of time to 
address any questions that may come up and pay you're 1st months premium.  Be 
sure to call your medical carrier directly with any questions you have about 
COBRA ahead of time also.
