I read the same 1/2 unit per inch detail in Pumping Insulin
However this morning when I primed the tubing on my 80cm comfort set it took
less than 10 units and insulin was dripping out - makes no sense but that's
what I found

Actually, there is closer to 1/2 unit per inch of tubing so the 80mm
(31") tubing has more like 15 units. Insets only come in 23" and
43", so we are talking approx. 12 to 24 units of insulin in them.
