[IP] Re: trigger finger Robert

Hi Robert,

Andy's description is a good one; often the cause cannot be determined but it
is common in diabetics. Just a couple of points I might add regarding the
treatment and my own experience.

Early in 2004 I began having this problem in my right thumb; didn't know what
it was but after a two or three months or so I realized one day that my thumb
was fine, the problem had gone away. Now I have it in my middle finger on my
right hand and it seems more severe. My orthopaedic surgeon says that sometimes
the swelling and inflamation can disappear when using anti-imflamatory
medication; that's apparently what happened with my thumb. I've had it on my
right hand now for about 2.5 months and it shows no signs of getting better, so
I'm thinking this one may require surgery, which I'm also told isn't too bad.

My doctor also mentioned cortisone shots but the one shot I had on my
previously frozen shoulder hurt so bad I saw stars and did me no good at all. I
also understand that steroids wreck havoc with BG control.

.....an inflammation of the tendons and ligaments that run across the palm at
the base of the fingers and the ones running down the fingers. Is they becomes
more inflammed, it is harder for the ligaments to freely run back and forth. ...
Two possible treatments: 1) steroid injections into the inflammed area (only
in about 50% of the patients) and 2) surgery to open the ligaments and allow
them to
freely move. I had 1 finger done last year (03) and 2 more just a week ago.
Hope that helps a little!
