Re: Subject:RE: [IP] Kids and non-diabetic camps

Gus went to a non-DM camp last summer (4-5 shots daily...had been approved
for but not started the pump.). He participated in the 10-day introductory
session for 8-9 year olds and had a marvelous time. Both his older brothers
were on and off site at the same time (older campers go into the wilderness
for 5-10 day stints hiking/rafting.) Gus really wanted to experience what
he's seen his brothers doing for the last 5 years and we hired a nurse to be
there only for him during that 10 day period. She spent a lot of time
hiding behind trees...keeping an inobtrusive "eye-out." Now that he's
pumping I assume the experience would be easier, but it will mean training a
nurse or finding one with knowledge about pumps and site changes. His
school nurse spends a summer at a different non-DM camp in Maine, so
perhaps he could go to that one...but he'd like to go back to Camp Kieve.
