Inevitable Natalie view:

Since the A1c really doesn't mean the same thing for everyone, trying to
extrapolate an individual goal from a large-group study really doesn't
make sense. And since we each have different susceptibility to
complications and heart disease, it makes even less sense.

In order for ME to get an A1c of 8%, I would have to be spending most of
the day above 300. Yet some of you have much better numbers than that
and still can't get much below 8%.

Conversely, I had an A1c of 4.8% when I was already distinctly
hyperglycemic. (But the number convinced my doc that I couldn't possibly
have diabetes!)

And my usual A1c is between 5.0% and 5.5% -- nice normal reading on a
scale of normal = 3.5% - 6%. BUT I can SHOW you that my BGs are not
normal -- I'm over 150 about 50% of the time.

So don't get too obsessed about A1c -- do the best you can, but be sure
to leave yourself room to lead your LIFE -- and frequent hypos in
pursuit of 5.0 are NOT my definition of life!!!!!
