   VERY good point worth mentioning again.  Not only did the dermatologist I
was then working for culture Melissa's site infection, but she also did a
nasal swab. The culprit? - staph aureus which a certain percentage of the
population harbors, especially in the nose.  So all it would take is a sneeze
to transfer those germs to one's hands & then to the site, even if the site
had been cleaned.  Not only has Melissa learned to be more diligent about pre-
insertion hygiene, but she also now appreciates the importance of NOT ignoring
any redness or discomfort at an insertion site, longer than 1/2 hour after
