 I believe one of the original complaints of the Dexcom 7+ was that people
wanted a greater range of distance for the transmitter to talk to the receiver.
To eliminate the lost signal Dexcom increased the power of the transmitter on
the G4. It did, however shorten the life of the transmitter.

I don't use a CGM; but I suspect, like everything else on the market today, 
that it is called "planned obsolescence".
