One figure you didn't mention is of the prevalence of diabetes and 
it's increase into epidemic proportions.  In 1985 there were 30 
million diabetics world wide.  In 2000 there were 150 million 
diabetics worldwide and they project that figure to increase to 300 
million by 2025.
