 I just look at it as an educational opportunity, and try to make it real simple
for them:

 I need as much carbohydrates as they do -- I just have to supply insulin to
match. Actually, I
probably need MORE carbohydrates than they do, since I tend to be underweight!

And, when I'm low, I NEED those carbohydrates a lot MORE than they do!

 My wife had trouble with this concept at first. Before the pump, it was really
baffling to her that
 I'd avoid a meal of mostly rice, but eat the same carbs in bread in a sandwich
with meat. The rate
and timing being the critical differences.

I'll listen to them and stop eating treats and bolusing for it when 
they rip their pancreas out and do what I have to do just to keep 
living, much less enjoy life!      ;>P
