While this is true to an extent, most insurance companies offer a choice of 
specific policies covering certain items.  An employer may or may not be 
able to negotiate specific coverages within the different policies 
depending on the number of employees covered.  The smaller the group, the 
less the negotiation power.   And, some things, such as limits of supplies 
imposed by the insurance companies must be fought against by you, not your 
employer, although if your company has an agent, they may be able to 
assist.  (Been there, done that.)
