I think this statement should be clarified a little bit.

The Merck Manual says that the mortality rate for DKA is about 10%,
whereas the mortality rate for non-ketotic coma in Type 2's is greater
than 50%.

So while the immediate risk of going into coma is not as great for Type
2's as for Type 1's, the coma is a LOT more dangerous.
