When first diagnosed, me and my mother were the same way.  We wouldn't take
anything that said not to take unless directed by your doctor.  I asked my
doctor about that and she said that is mostly for their safety only.  Most,
and i stress most, medications are fine, for me, to take.  I take any kind
of over-the-counter cold/flu medication there is.  I have even taken the
Nitequil and Dayquil and neither have ever had any effect on my b/s number,
however YMMV.
