[IP] Re: ketones

You may have caught them early in the process. When the BG
was coming down, the ketones were lagging behind in the
urine. Sometimes the lag is 3 to 4 hours. It is usually best
to treat the BG number, check BG in 2 to 3 hours to see if
the BG is going in the right direction, increase fluid
intake to help flush the ketones from the system. If ketones
are going up in 2 to 3 hours, then more insulin will be
needed. If you give insulin for the ketones when the BG is
coming down, then you might expect to see a low BG later.
