A possibility:

Even non-diabetics' insulin and glucose sensitivity vary according to
how much they have eaten the previous day. So when someone is taking a
glucose tolerance test, they're told to eat normally for 3 days before
the test. (A non-diabetic's pancreas changes insulin output to cover, so
they don't see a marked change in BGs). 

So maybe some of what's throwing you off is doing the fasting tests
consecutively. Maybe you need to wait a couple of days between tests so
as not to trigger whatever (starvation) hormones might be affecting your
