the disk does spin freely when not in the pump. so when it is inserted and you
try to line up the flat sides of the rod to fit in the drive mechanisim it
turns the rod so that the disk moves up against the top plunger insert on the
rod. So depending on what stage of refilling the pump you are in, the disk is
free spinning.
