Disetronic Medical Systems, Inc. Introduces D-TRON(TM)plus for Management Of
New Device is Part of Complete Diabetes Management System for PatientsST.
PAUL, Minn., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Disetronic Medical Systems, Inc.today
announced the U.S. market launch of its newest insulin pump. D-TRONplus,
together with InSight(TM), DiaLog(TM) and a blood glucose meter,forms a
diabetes management system that gives patients and doctors the
mostcomprehensive picture to date of a patient's therapy profile and
specificneeds. The D-TRONplus is the only pump to accept physician prescribed,
Lilly 300-unit, pre-filled insulin cartridges, which results in greater
convenience forthe patient. The pump provides a 6-day supply of insulin, on
average, andfeatures a universal luer lock fitting, which accepts most
infusion sets. D-TRONplus comes with a lithium power pack, which lasts up to
two months, andthe infrared interface allows communication between the pump
and a computer.Disetronic is also the only company to provide a free backup
pump, so thepatient does not need to go back to insulin shots if the pump
needs to beserviced. The InSight(TM) Diabetes Management Program is an
Internet-based programthat gives patients a timely, comprehensive picture of
their diabetes-relatedinformation. Patients can automatically download and
graph insulin pump andblood glucose meter data, and manually input variables
into this program. Thepatient's health care provider can access all this
information, with thepatient's permission, and can therefore make more
accurate recommendations.InSight(TM) is fully HIPPA-compliant, so patient
privacy is assured."Diabetes is a very complex disease, and one of the
biggest problems weface as doctors is getting access to patient information,"
said Tim Bailey,M.D., a San Diego endocrinologist and creator of the
InSight(TM) program."It's also difficult for the active diabetes patient to
continually log howmuch insulin he is getting. A patient who uses D-TRONplus
with InSight(TM)now has a true care enhancement tool, one that gives the
greatest depth andpreviously unavailable information to his
doctor."DiaLog(TM) is Disetronic's pump programming tool, which patients
andhealth care providers can use to program D-TRONplus and customize
itsfeatures. Instead of entering each of 24 different hourly basal rates
intothe pump, patients can type them into a computer, which then sends them
to thepump. DiaLog(TM) also assists health care providers in determining an
initialbasal rate profile based on a series of different physiological
factors."D-TRONplus is the latest in a series of innovations that has become
thehallmark of Disetronic," said Patrik DeHaes, M.D., CEO and President
ofDisetronic Medical Systems, Inc. "We've grown into the
second-largestprovider of insulin pumps in the United States because of these
kinds ofadvances, and because of our long term commitment to providing total
diabetesmanagement solutions to our customers."Disetronic Medical Systems,
