Lily's rules are simple. Test within 1/2 hour before getting in the 
car. BG's must be >100. Test every hour while driving. Stop driving 
if bg's are under 100. No exceptions.

The FAA rule for private pilots who have diabetes are very similar. 
That's where I got the idea for Lily.
