[IP] IP] Re: Autoimmune response

I was diagnosed at age 11 after an accident from a horse falling on me. It
broke my ankle, the Dr. pinned it together and I was in the hospital for a
few days. ABout 1 week later, I was dx with DM. Not sick before or after
the incident w/ autoimmune disease, except that I had chicken pox when I was
4 or 5. My brother had it at the same time, and he's not diabetic. No one
in my family is diabetic, for as far back as Great Grandparents (at least
not that we know of). Dr. said possibly it was just the trauma of the horse
accident that triggered the DM. Pumping since 3/17/00 and doing well.
On the flu shot issue.. I've never had the flu shot, but did get the flu
this year. It was the worst 4 days of my life!!!! If I get it again this
winter I'll get the shot next year. Does having the flu once make you more
succeptible thereafter?
