[IP] action time of humalog

I have a similar response time, when i need to make changes in my basal
rates i have to correct at least four hours preceeding the problem as the
humalog doesn't react for a long time later. It has been very frustrating,
especially in trying to bring down a high -- which takes forever and then
i usually overcompensate and crash much later. I have been on the
disetronic pump since May and am still tinkering with basals. I take much
less during the night as i seem to always drop and then need alot more
insulin from 8am to 12 pm. I am considering changing my breakfast
carb/insulin ration which has been 1 unit for 10 grams at all meals to 1.5
for 10 grams to see if that helps the rollercoaster.

another question, i had finally had some consecutive good days last week
and was feeling fairly good about my basals and then on saturday my blood
sugars went
way up and still are, i am having to do a 150% to 200% temporary basal
rate change. do you ever have this happen?? maybe it is related to
premenstural hormones..... so now i am taking alot of insulin during the
day to try and stay in the normal range and then drop during the night.
hopefully it is a temporary fluke.

Subject: [IP] action time of Humalog

Maybe I'm unusual but I was wondering if there are any other pumpers
whose response time is similar to mine.. When I bolus for a meal or
snack I have documented over the months pumping that the bolus is still
present up to 5 hours later. As a mattter of fact, the largest drop is
consistantly between 4 and 5 hours later. I have to use the unused
insulin rule and divide by five often due to the fact that i often eat
sometime in that time span. If I don't make this calculation I will
certainly get into trouble. So am I alone in this and if there is
another pumper out there like me have you another solution. Would
another insulin or a mix work better? Sheila
