[IP] CDEs and insulin adjustment

Insulin is medicine prescribed by MDs.. RNs whether they are CDE or not
cannot prescribe any medicine.. ditto with RDs (dietitians) who are CDEs...
however, the CDE or the RN working with the MD can follow n MD approved
protocol that can be used as a "standing order" so that the RN or CDE can
adjust insulin doses.. these adjustments are charted and reviewed by the MD
.. the MD allows the CDE or RN to do adjustments based on the confidence the
doc has on the assessment/decision skills of his staff.
