Re: [IP] Morning bg numbers

Deborah from the sound of it, it sounds like your daughter is suffering from
the dawn phenomenon. It also could be from the fat she is eating that
evening which would raise the blood sugar continuous through the night. I
suggest as a guideline to have your daughter test her sugar before bedtime,
it should be 100-150. Don't eat five hours prior to going to bed. Try to
limit her fat consumption during the day also to eliminate that as a
variable that could be raising her sugar at night. Once going to bed test
your daughters sugar every two hours. From this information you will
probably find that at around 3:00am her sugar will rise and continue to rise
entill 7am. Adjust her basal by .1 increments entill her blood sugars
remain stable till waking. As a scenario you will probably find a need to
raise her basal from 1.4 at 3am to 1.6 entill 7am then back down to her
morning basal rate so a low doesn't follow. Her morning basal might need to
be lowered to account for the increased basal that early morning. If she
does have a dawn phenomenon between 3am and 7am their will always be an
increase in basal rate to account for the rise. Good LUCK. The extra
effort (blood sugar testing) will be well worth it, your daugther will get
up with a normal sugar and you , and her will feel much better. God Bless
You and Your Daughter better roads lie ahead.
