Actually, being slightly overweight is associated with the lowest risk of
morbidity. That's from:

Katherine M. Flegal, PhD; Barry I. Graubard, PhD; David F. Williamson, PhD;
Mitchell H. Gail, MD, PhD
JAMA. 2005;293:1861-1867.
What this study found is that modestly overweight people had the lowest risk
of death in this study. Results were published in the Journal of the
American Medical Association, not a schlock organization.
