Re: [IP] Newly pumping

I sense you are frustrated right now with how things are going. Don't worry
too much. It takes time to calculate the right ratios and basal levels.
You could have a few weeks (or even months) of some roller-coaster riding
with blood sugars before you finally get things set.

As Chris said, pizza will do a number on you, sometimes even for seasoned
pumpers. You may have to tweak it a little bit, and meals like that may be
the last thing you figure out. What works well for a lot of us is giving
half or two thirds of the dose right at the beginning, and taking the rest
as an extended bolus over several hours.

Don't give up. Things will level out eventually.

If you're not satisfied with what the CDE and doctor are telling you, or
(even better) if you want to be able to use your OWN mind to figure these
things out, get and use a copy of *Pumping Insulin,* by John Walsh. In it,
you will get the guidance necessary to figure these things out.

Good luck.
