# RE: [IP] carb counting question

```I agree and then for every 1 cup of salad = 5 gram of CHO - so if you eat a "big" salad - that would be about 15 CHO!  so bolus for that, too!
Something new I learned after 5 years of carbo counting!
Personally...I do it this way.
Weigh the steak.  For every oz over 3 count as 5g Carb.  So a 12oz steak
would be 9oz x 5g = 45g Carb.  Then I would square over 4 hours (my
digestive pattern) 4.5 units (I have a 1:10 carb ratio).
Hope that helps but YMMV,
Sherry
Subject: [IP] carb counting question
I've asked this question of my dietician, but she told me to always eat
carbs with my meals.  Let's say I want to eat a juicy steak and a big green
salad with no carbs, not even in the dressing, for dinner. I currently
figure my bolus as 1 unit per 15 carbs.  I also figure in 1 unit per every
50 dl/mlg(?) of bg reading over 150. How do you figure how much insulin to
take for your bolus?  Would I use a square wave bolus?
Thanks,
Cathy
