More to the point.  The most important person on the surgical team is 
the anestheisologist (sp??) He/She's the person who keeps you alive 
through the surgery.
Talk to this person yourself and make sure they understand diabetes, 
the pump, etc... If you are not satisfied, get another 
anestheisologist.  I have several Dr. friends including 2 
anestheisologists, they all agree on this point.
