Protein, Fat, and Blood Sugar
Liz DavisOctober 2001
This document is an attempt to explain the effect of fat and protein consumption on blood sugar. While many people are instructed to ignore fat and protein in
their bolus calculations, there are several ways that they can affect the blood sugar. For some people this is an extremely subtle effect; for others it is more obvious and
must be taken into account when calculating a bolus.
