Insulin-Dependent Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and
Adults How to become an expert on your own diabetes by Ragnar Hanas, MD, Department of Pediatrics, Uddevalla, Sweden This book would be extremely useful to families and young adults who want comprehensive information and for nurses, general practitioners and other health professionals involved in the care of people with IDDM. Our Insulin Pumpers reviewer (a retired doc) writes: I strongly urge all type 1 diabetics to read "Insulin dependant diabetes" by Ragnar Hannus a pediatrician in Sweden. This is well written in English, it has cartoons and drawings which illustrate some of our problems. You can get it from Amazon.com I reviewed it for them some months ago. I call it the Mouse book because, apologies to Cheryl M, it has a mouse on the cover. The technical lingo is minimal and everything is well explained. I even recommend this book to med students. Hanus's son has diabetes so it is written from the heart. A recommendation before pumping. you can know what is wrong with your sweet body by reading it. The full chapter on insulin pumping can be viewed and downloaded in PDF format.

Diabetes Burnout by William H. Polonsky, PhD, CDE One reader writes: If you have been stressed out about diabetes and cant quiet figure out why, you need this book. If a loved one has diabetes and it seems that everything you say to them about diabetes is wrong, you need this book. William Polonsky is very insightful on this subject. I have been struggling with Type I diabetes for 15 years and have read many books on the subject. What I like about this book it that it is "interactive" This books gives you direction. It gives you hope. Diabetes is a tough thing to go through and this book validates your feelings. It handles objectives in a very clear manner. Its not just a bunch of information thrown at you. Dr. Polonsky suggests ways to include the information that he writes about in very real situations. This book is uplifting, refreshing, direct, (humorous too!).
